Emma Kohlmann is an American artist living and working in Florence, MA. She received her B.A. from Hampshire College, Amherst, MA. Her chosen mediums include watercolor and ink, however her practice extends to digital art, zines, drawing and painting. The artist creates a contemporary, joyful, feminine world which places figures and faces within imaginary spaces populated with plants, birds and other apparently natural forms. Her fluid figures retrace the subconsciousness through a lexicon drawn from erotic art, ancient and folk figurines and mythology.

Among Kohlmann’s solo shows include Secret Flower, KIT Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2016; New York Studies Into Obscurity V1 Gallery, Copenhagen,  2016; Sun Spots, Nationale, Portland, OR, 2018; Magic Symbols, New Image Art, Los Angeles, 2019; Material Art Fair, Jack Hanley Gallery, Mexico City, 2019. She has been included in group shows such as Sweet Cheeks BPQLA and Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles, 2018;  Paper Bound, 2018; Turn gallery, New York Re_Arrange, 2018; Mana Contemporary, Jersey City Ashtray Show 2018; Fisher-Parrish Gallery, New York; Under Heavy Manners,  V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, 2015.  She was the Artist in Residence University of Austin, 2019.
Kohlmann has made various record covers for music labels and her work has been seen on the pages of Vogue. Kohlmann’s work is in notable collections such as The Wythe Hotel, New York (US);  Region Västra Götaland (SE).
