Stephen Dunne is an Irish artist who currently lives and works in Berlin. Stephen Dunne graduated from The Royal College of Art with an M.A in Painting in 2001. Dunne is a multimedia artist working with painting and drawing whilst exploring the moving image. 
 

The artists practice draws on the subconscious, often creating forms and figures from inkblots. In using the inkblots as a basis for his figures, he allows the subconscious to dictate the work; classical narratives are shunned and alternative ideas of the image are explored.

 

The artist commented on his work in THE HEAD:

“ In the context of these works I see the head as a repository of fiction, like a vessel it is something we fill up with culture and ideas, sounds and our own experiences; it can be re-translated in a painting using the imaginary.”

Stephen Dunne’s solo exhibitions include Triskel Arts, Cork, 2019; Ashford Gallery, Royal Hibernian Academy, 2019; “Subliminal Anarchy”, Pallas Projects Dublin, 2014; “Dumb Tings”, collaboration with John Strutton, Coleman Projects, London, 2008. “Worship the Light / Worship the Dark”, Bartlett’s Space, London, 2007. Dunne’s work has been included in such group shows as “Wilder Beings Command”, Irish Museum of Modern Art, 2017; “Afterlife – Festival De Los Muertos ”, Pallas Projects, Dublin, 2013; “The London Art Book Fair”, Domobaal, Whitechapel Gallery, 2011; “Snippet”, Wayward Gallery, London, 2011; “Pilot:3”, Fondazione Beilacqua La Masa, Venice Biennale, 2011; “The Show”, Royal College of Art, London, 2001.
