Suspecting Suspects

Peter Funch is a Danish artist currently living and working in Paris. His work incorporates social commentary into cinematic-like photographs. He extensively photographs commuters and street corners, interested in daily life and the rituals of city-life. The images are strikingly sharp and close up, although he often takes the images farther away, with a longer lens. This creates a level of connection between the viewer and the subject.

 

Peter Funch is the recipient of many prestigious awards including 1st Prize From Danish School Of Journalism With Portraits From World Trade Center, Aarhus, Denmark; ‘The Director Einar Hansen and Wife Vera Hansens Art, Design and Architecture Award’ Dir for his work 42nd And Vanderbilt; 1st Prize In Best Photojournalist Project Of The Year, From The Danish School Of Journalism. 

Funch’s solo shows include Last Flight: An American Anthology, V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, 2011; Babel Tales, Colette, Paris, 2010; The Eye Of The Beholder, A Solo Project At Voltashow, New York, NY [Catalogue], 2007. Peter Funch’s work has been included in such group shows as Bad Moon Rising, Chris Duncan & Peter Funch (Duo Show), PARIS PHOTO  Grand Palais, Paris, 2019; Summer Reading, The Hole, 2013; Hello Materials, Danish Design Center, Copenhagen, 2012; The Destruction Of Atlantis, Union Gallery, London, 2008; Foam Photography Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2003.

Peter Funch’s work is collected in such notable institutional collections as Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Det Nationale Fotomuseum (The Royal Library National Collection Of Photography), Copenhagen; Reinhardhallen, Berlin; New York Public Library (NYPL) Print Collection, New York; West Collection, Collegeville, PA, United States.
